THERAPY FOR GRIEF & LOSS · In-person in Toronto & Online across Ontario

There is no right way to grieve.

Therapy for grief and loss can offer a place to make sense of loss, experience what you are feeling without having to rush through it, and find ways to continue living while carrying what matters to you

UNDERSTANDING GRIEF

Grief can change the way the world feels.

Loss can affect our emotions, relationships, bodies, identities, and sense of the future. Sometimes grief comes in waves. Sometimes it feels like numbness, anger, relief, guilt, longing, or exhaustion. Sometimes we don’t recognize what we are experiencing as grief at all. You may notice that you:

  • feel overwhelmed by sadness or longing
  • feel numb, disconnected, or unable to cry
  • experience anger, guilt, regret, or relief
  • replay what happened or wonder what you could have done differently
  • struggle with sleep, concentration, motivation, or everyday routines

Grief does not follow a predictable timeline. There is no correct way to feel after losing someone or something that mattered to you.

HOW THERAPY CAN HELP

What We Can Work on Together

Therapy is not about forgetting, letting go, or “getting over” what happened. We make space for loss while helping you find ways to live alongside grief at a pace that feels manageable
  • making space for sadness, anger, guilt, relief, and other complicated emotions
  • processing the death of someone you love
  • coping with sudden or traumatic loss
  • developing boundaries without using distance as protection
  • understanding grief after a relationship ending or major life transition
  • exploring grief connected to immigration, displacement, or leaving home
  • finding ways to stay connected to what was meaningful while continuing to live your life
LIVING WITH LOSS

Grief does not end, but we learn to hold it better.

Grief does not always end. But our relationship with it can change. With therapy, you can start:
  • feeling less overwhelmed when grief comes in waves
  • being able to remember without always becoming flooded
  • experiencing joy without feeling that you are betraying what you lost
  • feeling more connected to other people
  • making space for both love and loss
  • allowing grief and life to exist alongside one another
  • reconnecting with parts of yourself that became difficult to access after the loss
  • carrying what mattered to you forward in a way that feels meaningful

WHO THERAPY CAN SUPPORT

Therapy for grief and loss may be a good fit if…

  • someone important to you has died
  • you are anticipating the death or decline of someone you love
  • a death was sudden, violent, traumatic, or difficult to understand
  • you have complicated feelings about the person you lost
  • immigration or displacement has meant losing proximity to people, places, language, culture, or a former life
You do not need to know whether what you are experiencing “counts” as grief. If something mattered to you, losing it can matter too.

Therapy for Grief and Loss with Ivana Psychotherapy

Our therapists support people experiencing bereavement, traumatic loss, anticipatory grief, relationship endings, immigration and displacement, and other significant life transitions. Our approach to grief is relational and trauma-informed. We do not assume that grief follows a particular sequence or timeline. Therapy can offer space for what has been lost, what remains, and the life that continues alongside it.

“Pozivam za svjedoka vrijeme, početak i svršetak svega — da je svaki čovjek uvijek na gubitku.”
