EMDR therapy · In-person in Toronto and Online across Ontario

Our past experiences often live in the present moment.

EMDR therapy can help you process difficult experiences from your past that continue to affect how you feel, think, relate, and respond. Rather than only talking about what happened, EMDR can help your brain and nervous system process experiences that still feel unresolved.

ABOUT EMDR THERAPY

Your body may still hold difficult feelings you experienced years ago.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a trauma-focused therapy that uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, while you notice memories, emotions, thoughts, and body sensations. You may notice that you:

  • understand what happened but still feel affected by it
  • become triggered by reminders of the past
  • experience intrusive memories or images
  • carry shame, fear, or self-blame
  • feel unsafe even when you know you are safe now

EMDR can help difficult experiences feel more like memories, rather than something you are still living through.

HOW EMDR THERAPY CAN HELP

What We Can Work on Together:

EMDR can support the processing of experiences that still feel emotionally charged or unfinished.
  • trauma and PTSD
  • relationship and attachment wounds
  • sexual trauma
  • grief and loss
  • anxiety and panic
  • rejection or abandonment
  • negative beliefs about yourself
WHAT SESSIONS MAY LOOK LIKE

You stay present and in control.

EMDR does not mean immediately going into your most painful memories. Therapy may begin with getting to know your history, building resources, and making sure you feel supported enough to begin processing. During EMDR, your therapist may invite you to notice:
  • a memory or image
  • emotions
  • thoughts or beliefs
  • sensations in your body
  • shifts in intensity
  • new associations or perspectives
  • increased sense of aliveness

WHO EMDR THERAPY CAN SUPPORT

EMDR may be a good fit if…

  • something from the past still feels very present
  • you experience strong emotional or physical triggers
  • you understand your patterns but still feel stuck
  • certain memories carry fear, shame, anger, or grief
  • previous therapy helped you understand what happened, but something still feels unresolved
